In-flight Meal

An in-flight meal or airline meal is a food service provided to passengers on a
commercial airliner or charter flight. These meals are prepared by specialized
airline catering services and typically served to passengers using an airline
service trolley. The typical airline dinner consists of meat (usually chicken or
beef), fish, or pasta; a vegetable or salad; a small bread roll (with butter);
and a dessert. Condiments such as salt, pepper, and sugar are supplied in
sachets or shakers.
The quality and quantity of in-flight meals differ significantly across
different airlines and travel classes. The meals can range from a simple snack
or beverage in short-haul economy class to a seven-course gourmet meal in a
first-class long-haul flight. The types of food offered also vary widely
depending on the airline and often incorporate local cuisine elements, sometimes
from both the origin and destination countries.
On some airlines, passengers can pre-book their in-flight meals before boarding,
especially on budget flights.
