Home » Major Airlines » KLM » Unaccompanied Minor Policy
The KLM Unaccompanied Minor service is mandatory for children aged 5 up to and
including 14 who are travelling alone, or travelling in a different travel class
than you as a parent or accompanying adult. For children aged 15 up to and
including 17 years old, the service is optional.
Make sure to book the flight for a child travelling alone together with the
Unaccompanied Minor service at least 24 hours before departure. This service
cannot be booked separately of the flight, and you can only book this via the
KLM Customer Contact Centre
or your travel agent.
When booking the service, KLM will ask for details about your child and for your
contact information. Next to that, KLM will ask for details of the person
bringing your child to the airport at departure, and the person authorised to
pick up your child on arrival. Make sure to have all information prepared when
booking the service. KLM will use this information to fill out the Handling
Advice form, which your child will carry throughout his or her trip.
To accompany your child during its journey, you need to authorise us by handing
in 4 filled out and signed copies of the Handling Advice form at the check-in
desk at the airport. Fill out the form online, or print the form and fill it out
by hand. Make sure to sign all the copies and bring an up to date version of the
form with you to the airport.
During online check-in, you will receive a check-in confirmation, but no
boarding pass. The boarding pass you will receive at the check-in desk at the
airport.
A parent or guardian aged 18 years or older needs to bring the child to the
check-in desk at least 2,5 hours before departure. The person bringing the child
to the airport needs to bring a valid type of identification and stay at the
airport until the child’s flight has departed.
Before departure and after arrival, the KLM staff, or staff hired by KLM, will
accompany your child to and from the aircraft, even in the event of delay.
During the flight, the cabin attendants will keep a close eye on your child. KLM
will keep you informed by telephone, e-mail and text message about any changes
in your child’s flight schedule.
KLM only allows transfers for unaccompanied minors on KLM,
Air France, and
Delta Air Lines flights.
At the end of the journey, KLM will personally accompany your child to the
person you have authorised to collect him or her.
Costs
Regardless of the age of your child, the cost of the Unaccompanied Minor service
is the price of an adult’s ticket plus a service surcharge. See the table below
for the exact amount of the service surcharge for one-way tickets. The surcharge
is doubled for return tickets. For up to 4 children in 1 booking, the
Unaccompanied Minor fee will be charged only once. They may or may not be
relatives, as long as they have the same booking code.
It's important to note that KLM's unaccompanied minor service may have
different requirements or restrictions depending on the specific route or
destination. Therefore, it's best to contact KLM
customer service team directly for more
information about their unaccompanied minor policy.
